We printed this poster and are participating in Asamblea/Ensamblar at Otras Obras in Tijuana from April 13th through May 17th with a bunch of super great people!  It’s going to be a rad selection of books, and the show following the opening on April 13th is going to crush!!

Michael Ned Holte’s Proper Names was reviewed by Sarah Williams at The Art Book Review today!

Begging to be read out loud, like a roll call. Michael Ned Holte’s Proper Names is forty fillless pages of names, one listed after the other.

Completely without context and equally weighted, not alphabetical, and not all real people the names breeze through. You linger briefly on past association and general biases towards sound, plucking out and collecting the recognized names. A unique experience for each person who picks it up, reading the constellation of listed names charts a specific cultural consciousness.
…
Highlighting the array of relationships we have with names–from those we equate with flesh and blood personalities to those that have transcended into an idea more than a person, perhaps representing an aesthetic (Ruscha), or a body of ideas (Žižek), or a character (Hennessy Youngman).

“A List of Students Enrolled in Post Studio Art, with Michael Asher at CalArts, 1976-2008” was featured on MANYSTUFF yesterday.  We’re honored!

A List of Students Enrolled In Post Studio Art, With Michael Asher At Calarts, 1976–2008 consists of a list of students enrolled in Michael Asher’s Post Studio Art class at CalArts, semester by semester, from 1976 until 2008. The project, compiled and edited by Leslie Dick & Adriano Pedrosa, designed by Michael Ray-Von, is in memory of Michael Asher.
Post Studio Art met on Fridays to critique and discuss work presented by students. The class began at 10 AM and continued into the evening, often ending at 8 PM, 10 PM, and occasionally even later. The group continued the conversation until there was nothing more to say. By throwing out the clock, Michael Asher opened up a space for engaged consideration and questioning that proved fundamental to the thinking and practice of the artists and others who took part.
The list of students published here acknowledges the participants in a discourse, without attempting to describe or define the discourse. The book includes a short introduction and seven appendices.

Find the book on our website here.  All proceeds from the book are donated to the Michael Asher Memorial Scholarship at California Institute of the Arts.

Please join us this Sunday evening for the grand opening of a new space in Boyle Heights, featuring 12 new large-scale paintings by Laura Owens in the main room, and the new second location of our store, Ooga Booga #2 in the front space!

The festivities begin at 5pm, with Guisados tacos…

This already happened BUT it was a super rad event and the new Ooga Booga #2 space is totally awesome/amazing/incredible/etc!  We are super stoked to be able to say that you can find some of our books there and also at the OG Ooga Booga in Chinatown!

Thx for the tacos, drinks, and big ups to whoever was DJing Too $hort and DJ Quik!!
